What I now call “The Book”; is Picture of quilt

The Journey of Hope ….Quilts

Inspires by President Barack

Obama, by Carolyn L Mazloomi,

features the creative works of

203 fiber artist who

responded to a call for quilts in

response to one of the most

defining moments in the history

of the United States I am in that

number, on page 142, expressing

my emotions, events and

experiences that had impacted my

life, and now, has brought me to

one of the proudest moments yet.

I believe that our odyssey of peace,

justice and imminent destiny is at

hand. I hope to excite the viewer

and soothe the soul. The design is

made up of many layers of artistic

symbolism and color, that provide

an explicit scope and visual images

to tell this story. The story is one

of injustice, accomplishments and a

victory declared…hence, the title I

choose for my quilt is “In my

lifetime: A Path of Injustice,

Accomplishments, and a Victory

Declared”.

As I created this piece, I listened

to the words inside my soul,

remembering my grandmother and

mothers eyes and words, as I

interpreted a visual image which tell

about painful experiences that affected

the Black experience in America. The

black and white in this quilt convey the

intensity of injustice, the hands reach

out in desperation, and in celebration

of our contributions and accomplishments

as African Americans. I hope that we can

somehow embrace the inhumane

experiences and look forward

to our imminent destiny.
